"Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent”
It is a very familiar line, isn't it? It was said by Joe to Mia in the movie Princess Diaries.
These past few days, I was really in bad mood. I have an account in Friendster. Because it is an online community and it is open to everyone who wants to meet new people, I accept everyone who wants to add me as a friend. Then, one day this guy gave me a ‘friend request’ and eventually, I didn’t hesitate to ACCEPT his ‘friend invitation’ and I added him up.
To my horror, I just found out that he uploaded my photo on his profile without my consent on the next day. He might have a PICTOPHILIA or something because he also uploaded pictures from other girls with CHINITA looks (by the way, I’m a bit chinita hehe). I tried to contact him by sending messages to delete the picture but I was ignored.
I tried to send messages from his ‘friends’ pleading them to help me pursue him to delete the photo. There are some people who kindly help me while some of them didn’t really care. Unfortunately, the worst people are the one who instead of helping you out, they say unnecessary things to you.
That comes down to this girl named “aNgHel’. I’ve sent a message to her because she was connected to the guy who re-uploaded my photo. I really can take people who don’t care at all, but what I cannot take is the likes of this girl. When I saw the there was another reply to my ‘message brigade’, I thought that someone takes notice (someone who cares). But then, to my dismay, she ridiculed me and said that I’m “ugly”. I was really hurt by then. I was really down.
But thanks to this someone, (called Kiannesans) my spirit lifted up. She said “Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent”. Then I smiled and said “Princess Diaries… haha, thank you Beshy, you’ve opened my eyes”. Yes, that was REALLY a GREAT eye opener. The funny thing is we started to make fun of this girl and her profile, saying ill things about her. I love this friend so much… hek hek
Lessons that I learned.
1. Don’t easily accept a request from someone in an online community.
2. Don’t easily get affected from a stranger’s bad words.
3. Lastly, nothing beats a friend that can make you feel better when you’re down in an instant.
